CASARES WILL BE USED AS LOCATION FOR MAJOR TV AD NEXT MONTH


Casares has been chosen as the location foe the filming of a najor television ad which will be shot in the town early next month. Filming for the commercial for a multinational brand snack will take place on November 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th. Tourism councillor Pepe Carrasco said the ad will boost tourism in Casares and bring economic benefits to the residents. Fifty people will be involved in shooting the ad and they will be staying in local hotels. In addition local people will be hired as extras, and for help in transporting equipment. The producer has spent several weeks in Casares casting for the ad and so far has seen more than 300 people.



ANTONIA MUNOZ RESIGNS AS MAYOR OF MANILVA IN SURPRISE MOVE

Antonia Munoz has resigned as Mayor of Manilva in a shock move which has taken everyone by surprise. Munoz  has not been aligned with any political group since the middle of 2013 following a request by the United Left to remove herself. She announced her resignation and said that the decision was caused by many factors but above all by her wish to see the work done. Munoz has been denounced in court for alleged cronyism and in 2013 six councillors of the United Left requested that she leave their group. Munoz first entered local politics in Manilva, which has 14,000 residents, in 1987 and she became the first woman mayor of the town in 1999 under the banner of the United Left. She left the position between 2003 and 2007 but returned to the post in 2007 following the local elections.

THREE PEOPLE ARRESTED ON CASARES COSTA FOR STEALING BUILDING MATERIAL

Three people have been arrested on Casares Costa for stealing building material. Local police from Casares arrested the three, aged between 30 and 40 and of Spanish nationality, after they were alerted by a call from a local resident.  Three police officers responded and after monitoring the suspects seized their van containing the stolen material and made the arrests. Inside the van they found stolen construction equipment.

CASARES IS GETTING READY FOR THE TRADITIONAL CHESTNUT FAIR ON ALL SAINTS DAY ON NOVEMBER 1ST.


Residents will visit the cemetery from dusk until dawn on the eve of All Souls Day and will place fresh flowers at the graves.

DEADLINE GIVEN FOR COMPLETION OF THE BRIDGE LINKING MANILVA WITH CASARES


The Ayuntamiento has given a new deadline of mid November for the completion of work on the new bridge linking Manilva with Casares. The ultimatum was given to the company awarded the contract, Vallejo Aplicaciones and they have agreed to finish the original design. The Mayor of Casares Antonia Morera recently expressed her disquiet at the delay in completing the work which was caused by the company changing the design of the boardwalk. The company failed to meet the original deadline and was warned by the ayuntamiento that they were in breach of contract. Mayor Morera has said she hoped the work will now be speedily finished as the bridge is eagerly awaited by the residents of Casares Costa and Sabinillas.

CASARES PUBLIC LIBRARY BRINGS IN NEW RULES FOR ELECTRONIC BOOKS

The public library in Casares has ceased supplying electronic books but  users can now access them from their own electronic devices. The library already has an arrangement with EbiblioAndalucia to provide the service. Anyone interested in using the service must register at the library where they will be given the access codes to download digital books. The digitial books can be accessed via computers, tablets and mobile phone and e books. Culture Counciilor Sonia Saborido said that the use of e books encourages reading among the general public. Users will be able to borrow two books for a maximum of 21 days but can renew the loan period.

MAJOR DOCUMENTARY ON THE CIVIL WAR TIO BE SCREENED IN CASARES THIS EVENING

An important documentary on the Spanish Civil War and its effects on a local village will be screened in Casares tonight. The documentary is about the destruction by Franco’s forces of the village of La Sauceda in the natural park of Los Alcornocales and the fate of its 2,000 inhabitants. The documentary film, “La Sauceda - from Utopia to Horror”, will be screened at five o’clock this evening at the Casa de la Cultura. The village was the last republican stronghold in the area and it was attacked  by four columns of Franco’s army. After the village was destroyed, the survivors were locked in a  farmhouse and every day five or six people were taken from there and executed. The screening will be followed by a presentation from the book “A valley of beauty and pain, the tragedy of Sauceda” by Luis Garcia Bravo. The event is being organised by the Department of Culture with the help of local historian, Benito Trujillano.


NEW “BLUE AREA” PARKING ARRANGEMENTS IN CASARES ARE UNVEILED


New parking arrangements are being put in place in Casares for loading and unloading areas. The ayuntamiento has taken into account complaints from local residents about the need to keep the streets of the historic quarter free of vehicles especially in the Plaza de Espana. The council has also taken into account the needs of local businesses to be supplied. The department of infrastructure has brought in new free parking blue zones from 8 in the morning until 8 in the evening. The local police have advised residents to observe the new rules and not tom park in prohibited areas or else face a fine. The bus parking area will also be extended.

The Casares Cemetery is getting  a facelift in preparation for this year’s Day of the Dead. The cemetery  and nearby areas will be newly painted  and maintenance work will  also be carried out to clean up the grounds before next month.



International news:

The ebola crisis continues to spread and President Barack Obama this week called an emergency cabinet meeting after a second health care worker in the United States was diagnosed with the virus. The President has warned that the world must step up its response to the deadly disease which first broke out in west Africa this summer. Almost 4,000 people have died from ebola and cases have been reported in the US, Spain and Australia.

In sports news :

It was an exciting week in the European qualifiers with the Republic of Ireland holding world champions Germany to a one all draw following the Irish teams seven nil victory over  Gibraltar last weekend. Northern Ireland also kept their European Championship dreams alive with a two nil victory over greece which left them top of their group.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny with a high of 26 and a low of 16, while Sunday will again be sunny with some cloud around and a high of 26 dropping to 17 at night.

SPANISH NURSE WHO HAS EBOLA IS CRITICALLY ILL IN MADRID


Teresa Romero, the first person in Europe to catch the deadly Ebola virus, is said to be critically ill in a Madrid hospital as fears mount for her life. Seven people are on an isolation ward because they came into contact with Ms Romero. The nurse contracted the Ebola virus after helping to clean the room of a dead missionary who had been returned to Madrid after catching the virus in west Africa. The Spanish authorities have been criticised for its handling of the crisis. A total of 84 people are under observation in Madrid. The Ebola virus has killed over 3,800 people already in west Africa and the World Health Organisation has warned that the disease is spreading rapidly.

CASARES MAYOR ANTONIA MORERA WILL NOT RUN IN THE LOCAL ELECTIONS


Casares Mayor Antonia Morera has announced that will not stand for the position in the forthcoming local elections. The Izquierda Unida member said she is proud of the trust that the people of Casares have placed in her in the past and also proud of  the people who have supported her during her term. She said she has decided to stand down because she believes that the role of a public representative should not last indefinitely. The outgoing Mayor said the time is right for a regeneration of the party and for new candidates to come forward for selection. The Izquierda Unida will now begin a canvas of its supporters to select a new candidate for the post.

CASARES APPLIES FOR PEDESTRIAN CROSSING AT CASARES DEL SOL


The ayuntamiento has begun proceedings to instal a new pedestrian crossing between Casares del Sol and Casares Costa. Deputy Mayor Pepe Carrasco held a meeting last week with the head of the Provincial Roads Service to discuss the initiative. The ayuntamiento is arguing that the crossing is necessary because of the increased number of people now living in the area on developments on both sides of the road. The new crossing would allow people to cross the main motorway at the Jardines del Rosario and the filling station.

And now some news in brief:

Much of the street lighting in Marina de Casares has been cut because of the theft of electrical cable. Copper wire valued at over 10,000 Euro has been stolen affecting over 3,000 metres of the area. Work has begun to restore power to the area.


In sports news:



Spain crashed to a shock defeat in this week’s World Cup qualifiers when they were beaten 2 - 1 by Slovakia last night. It was first time in seven years that Spain failed to win an away qualifier. 

Meanwhile Gibraltar will take on Ireland in Dublin tomorrow  in the first of their qualifying games.

And the weather for the weekend :



Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy with some sunny spells and a high of 24 dropping to 17 at night. Sunday will see the possibility of some thunderstorms with temperatures reaching 22 degrees and falling to 13.

ORGANIC ALLOTMENT PLOTS ARE OFFERED IN THE HISTORIC QUARTER AND ON CASARES COSTA

New organic allotment plots are being offered in the historic quarter of Casares and on Casares Costa. The plots in Casares are in the Los Arenales area and on the coast at a municipal plot close to the Manilva river. The allotments will be offered for a three year period and preference will be given to disadvantaged families, the unemployed and old  age pensioners. People will be able to consume what they produce on the allotments but will not be able to sell the produce. Successul applicants will be charged 10 Euro a month to cover irrigation costs. The ayuntamiento will carry out periodic checks to ensure that the rules of organic farming are adhered to.
