CASARES REPRESENTED AT INTERNATIONAL TOURISM FAIR ON COSTA DEL SOL

Casares is represented at Euroal, the international tourism fair of the Costa del Sol which is taking place this month.Councillor Sonia Saborido and Ecotourcasares are representing the town at the annual tourism showcase. The display for Casares shows highlights of the tourism season including the festival of New Andalucian Cinema which takes place next week. The Casares stand is staffed by members of the Ecotourcasares co-operative which helps to boost tourism in the town. The Euroal fair is mainly aimed at tour operators from Europe and Latin America.

MAYOR SIGNS INVESTMENT PLAN WORTH 230,000 EURO FOR CASARES

Mayor Antonia Morera yesterday signed an investment plan that will bring 230,000 Euro to Casares. She went to the Malaga Council to sign off on the plan. The budget will be divided between Casares, Secadero and Casares Costa. In Casares the money will finance new street sanitation. For Casares Costa the money will be used to repave the roadway at Bahia de Casares. And in Secadero the extra money will be used to modernise services on Calle Guadiaro.

CASARES COSTA RESIDENT AYSHA KING AT THE CENTRE OF AN INTERNATIONAL POLICE HUNT LAST EYAR IS REPORTED CANCER FREE

Casares Costa resident Aysha King who was at the centre of an international police hunt last September was this week reported to be cancer free. A British newspaper reported that the boy’s father Brett King said his son is now cancer free after receiving proton therapy treatment in Prague. The five year old English boy who lives with his family at Casares del Mar was taken from hospital in Britain  by his parents without doctors permission and an international police operation was launched to find him. The parents were arrested near Malaga and Aysha was taken into care. But following a public outcry, police released the parents and Aysha who suffers from a brain tumour was taken  to Prague for new cancer treatment. Now Aysha is said to be tumour free and having a short break in England before returning to his home in Casares Costa.

CASARES MAYOR PRESSES FOR ACTION OVER THE BRIDGE AT THE MANILVA RIVER

Casares Mayor Antonia Morera has requested an urgent meeting with the Junta de Andalusia to finish work on the bridge over the Manilva river which will link Sabinillas and Casares Costa. The project ran into trouble late last year when the consortium building the bridge failed to meet deadlines. Now Mayor Morera wants the Junta to intervene to finish the work before any political changes which might further delay it. She fears that changes in the political direction of the Tourism Council might cause the project to be put on the long finger. The Mayor said that residents are anxious to have the bridge completed and she regrets that the Town Hall can do nothing more to expedite the work.

A NEW DOG PARK AND SPORTS FACILITY TO OPEN AT CASARES COSTA

A new dog parks is to open at Casares Costa at the Jardines del Rosario. The new recreation zone will also include a sports area with mini golf, baseball, petunia and a picnic area. The dog park will allow residents to train their pets and play with them. Casares Costa councillor Antonia Pineda said that there was demand for the facility following the success of the dogs area on the beach.Work on the new area is being carried out by the Ayuntamiento and workers are preparing to landscape the area with new paths and picnic tables and benches for everyone to enjoy.

CASARES IS ORGANISING A LOCAL INITIATIVE TO A CHARITY MARATHON

It is a local initiative to organise a charity marathon to hep raise funds for a man from Casares Costa who is now a quadriplegic following an accident. It is hoped to raise enough money to carry out modification work on the man’s home at Cortijo Real. Radio Casares is helping in

TEN WORKERS HIRED BY CASARES COSTA FOR NEW PROJECTS

Casares Costa has hired ten new workers as part of its employment plan. The workers, two labourers, two stonemasons, two people from the over 30’s  programme and four other young people, have been taken on for projects at Casares Costa. Three include the expansion of the Jardines del Rosario, with a new recreation area,  sports facilities and a dog park. Mayor Antonia Morera said that the project will include a mini baseball field and a mini golf area. The Mayor said that progress is continuing on completion of the sports complex at Casares Costa where the paddle tennis facilities are almost finished. The Mayor is also hoping that the bridge over the Manilva river will be completed after work was held up because of a breach of contract by the construction company.

THE GREAT FOOD COLLECTION IS UNDERWAY IN CASARES

The Great Food Collection is taking place today in Casares. The collection, which is part of the countrywide collection held very year, is to help needy families. It started yesterday and there are severl collection points in Cases, Secadero and Casares Costa. There are over 100 families in the social integration program in the Casares municipality.The collection is being held under the slogan “Hunger cannot be seen” and according to the head of Food Bank, Paola Lopez, all donations will be put to good use to help those in need. In Casares families need canned goods, oil, flour, sugar and toiletries. Donations can be left at Casares Costa, at Los Alemndros school in Secadero and at the Department of Social Welfare and the Blas Infante school in Casares as well as several local shops.

NEW PUBLIC SPACE FACILITIES FOR CASARES COSTA

The second phase of the new public space at the Majestic development is close to completion with the opening of a new mini golf area and playground. The project will provide a widening of the Jardines del Rosario and job opportunities. Casares Costa councillor Antonia Pineda said the new green area will include a sports court, a baseball court and two petanca courts. The development of the public space will also include new walking trails with picnic tables and benches and a new dog park where locals can play and train their pets.

WORK STARTS ON NEW CAR PARK AND TOURIST CENTRE IN CASARES

Preliminary work has started on a new building at Calle Camachas in Casares which will include a multi storey car park,a  tourist centre and a new home for pensioners. The project has a budget of 1.8 million Euro. 70 per cent of the finance is coming from the Qualifications Plan of the Costa del Sol and the remaining 30 per cent has been provided by the Casares Ayuntamiento. When the building work is finished there will be an extra 133 parking spaces in Casares as well as a Tourism Interpretive Centre and a new home for pensioners. The Ayuntamiento has apologised to locals for the disruption caused by the work.

ORGANIC ALLOTMENT PLOTS ARE OFFERED IN THE HISTORIC QUARTER AND ON CASARES COSTA

New organic allotment plots are being offered in the historic quarter of Casares and on Casares Costa. The plots in Casares are in the Los Arenales area and on the coast at a municipal plot close to the Manilva river. The allotments will be offered for a three year period and preference will be given to disadvantaged families, the unemployed and old  age pensioners. People will be able to consume what they produce on the allotments but will not be able to sell the produce. Successul applicants will be charged 10 Euro a month to cover irrigation costs. The ayuntamiento will carry out periodic checks to ensure that the rules of organic farming are adhered to.

MAYOR ANTONIA MORERA INSPECTS WORK BEING CARRIED OUT AT CASARES COSTA

Mayor Antonia Morera has been visiting areas on Casares Costa where work is being carried out by the Ayuntamiento. These include improvement work on the pavement to the north of Marina de Casares which has a budget of more than 68,000 Euro.  The three month project involves a stonemason and 34 labouring contracts of 15 days duration each. Another project involves the expansion of the Jardines del Rosario. This work has a budget of almost 23,000 Euro  and a bricklayer and labourer have been hired by the Ayuntamiento for the job. The project will see the construction of a sports area with minigolf, tennis and a dog park. Mayor Antonia Morera said that work is also underway on the construction of the pedestrian bridge over the Manilva river. 

CASARES RENEWS ITS AGREEMEENT TO SUPPORT THE MUNICIPAL FOOD BANK

The Ayuntamiento in Casares has renewed its agreement with Desvan Solidario to keep the municipal food bank open. Desvan Solidario was the brainchild of a young Casarena Paula Lopez who set it up in June 2013. The food bank manages resources collected and donated by charitable activities to provide relief for disadvantaged families. It works closely with the local authority to manage resources allocated by the Red Cross and charitable donations from supermarkets and individuals. The food bank is open during office hours on Tuesdays and Fridays at Casares, on Thursdays at Casares Costa and at Secadero on Wednesdays. The programme currently looks after more than 107 families. 76 volunteers help the food bank to carry out its activties during the year.

THE SCHOOL YEAR STARTS IN CASARES WITH A SPECIAL DAY TO WELCOME NEW STUDENTS

It was back to school this week for children in Casares and Secadero. A special day was held on Wednesday to welcome the 800 students who will be attending the Blas Infante and Los Almendros schools. There are 350 pupils enrolled at Blas Infante and 162 at Los Almendros in Secadero. Teaching staff were making the final preparations this week for the return to school and all services, including dining and school transport, are ready. Yesterday the normal school schedule resumed from 9 to 2 in Casares and Secadero. A full programme of extracurricular activities will commence in October.

UNEMPLOYMENT FALLS FOR THE FOURTH MONTH IN A ROW IN CASARES

Unemployment has dropped in Casares for the fourth consecutive month in a row. The latest figures show the jobless figure at 474 in June, that’s a drop of 12 on the previous month. A similar trend was reported in Estepona where there were 380 less people on the dole, making a total figure of 6,444. Unemployment also fell in Manilva where the jobless figure for June was 1,199. The overall trend was repeated throughout Malaga province where the uneployment figure for June was 189,769, a drop of 6,612 than in May. The latest figures show that unemployment is at its lowest since 2011. However the trade unions say that much of the improvement is due to seasonal factors and the increase in service jobs during the summer months.

BEACHES ARE PREPARED FOR BUSY SUMMER SEASON AHEAD

The beaches of Casares Costa have been prepared for what is expected to be a busy summer season. The most recent work was the movement of new sand to Playa Ancha and Piedra Paloma to make them more amenable for bathers. In addition new beach equipment has been installed including 300 metres of wooden walkways, and new showers and toilets. This will allow easy access to the beaches from the paseo. The lifeguard service will come on stream from June 28th until August 31st and the ayuntamiento has awarded the contract to the local company SOS Mediterranea.

CASARES COSTA GETS READY FOR SAN JUAN CELEBRATIONS NEXT WEEK

San Juan will be celebrated with a feast of activities on the beaches of Casares Costa next Monday night. The official start of the summer season will also see the beginning of the Casares Costa Cultural Week which will last until June 30th. San Juan night gets underway at 7 pm at Playa Ancha with a children’s party with jugglers, clowns, acrobats, drummers and magicians. The evening’s activities will continue with flamenco and dance entertainment from La Cala orchestra. The party leads up to the climax of the traditional beach bonfire at midnight which this year will be made by Juan Angel Gomez Anja Tiedemann who has made works for previous years such as the The African Village and  The Dragon. The Cultural Week starts on Tuesday with an arts and crafts exhibition, and continues on Wednesday with a zumba exhibition at Playa Ancha. The week will close with a cultural trip on Monday June 30th.
