BRITON ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED MURDER OF GERMAN MAN IN SOTOGRANDE RESTAURANT

A British man has been arrested after the murder of a German resident of Sotogrande at a popular restaurant in the resort on Saturday night. 40 year old Victor Kainth is being held at Algeciras while police investigate the death. 43 year old German resident Sandro Rottman was allegedly punched in the head by the Briton after the father of three caught him taking photos of his young daughter on an I Pad. Witnesses reported that Kainth threw the I Pad to the ground and punched the German once in the head. The victim collapsed to the ground and Kainth continued to kick and punch him before leaving the Spinnaker restaurant. Rotten was taken to hospital in Linea but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police later arrested Kainth at his home in Sotogrande.It has been reported that Rottman was arrested last month for possession of child pornography.


CASARES MAYOR PRESSES FOR ACTION OVER THE BRIDGE AT THE MANILVA RIVER

Casares Mayor Antonia Morera has requested an urgent meeting with the Junta de Andalusia to finish work on the bridge over the Manilva river which will link Sabinillas and Casares Costa. The project ran into trouble late last year when the consortium building the bridge failed to meet deadlines. Now Mayor Morera wants the Junta to intervene to finish the work before any political changes which might further delay it. She fears that changes in the political direction of the Tourism Council might cause the project to be put on the long finger. The Mayor said that residents are anxious to have the bridge completed and she regrets that the Town Hall can do nothing more to expedite the work.




CASARES IS TO HOLD THE SECOND FESTIVAL OF NEW ANDALUCIAN CINEMA IN JUNE

Casares is to hold the second Festival of New Andalusian Cinema in the town in June. A press conference next week will announce the program for the festival which aims to promote the work of young film makers in Andalucia. The festival will be held from June 8th to 13th at different locations. This year will also see double projection sessions and the closing ceremony on the Saturday will be attended by a famous character from cinema. 



RESIDENTS ARE ARE ASKED TO PUT A SMILE ON THEIR HOUSE WITH A NEW COAT OF PAINT


The Residents of Casares have been asked to put a smile on the face of their houses with a new campaign. The Ayuntamiento is distributing pots of paint for locals to spruce up their house facades with a new coat of paint. Residents must enrol for the programme at the Casa Natal de Blas Infante. Fifty residents have already signed up for the painting programme and the ayuntamiento has acquired over 200 pots of paint. It is planned to decorate the old quarter of the town with newly painted houses and potted plants.

The Ayuntamiento is to ask the Department of the Environment to instal measures to protect birds in the Sierra Crestellina from power lines.

The electricity company Endesa has been asked to put up brightly coloured scarecrows that will keep the birds away from dangerous power lines.

International news :

Violence has continued in Ukraine with reports that at least eight Ukrainian servicemen were killed despite a ceasefire agreement due to come into force on Sunday. The ceasefire deal was reached after talks at Minsk involving Russian President Putin, German chancellor Angela Merkel and  France’s President Francois  Hollande.


In sports news :


It’s another bumper weekend for rugby fans with the second round matches in the Six Nations Championship. Ireland take on France in Dublin, Wales travel to Edinburgh to meet Scotland on Sunday and England, fresh from their victory over Wales, will play Italy at Twickenham tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny with a high of 17 and a low of 12, while Sunday will see a couple of showers and temperatures reaching 17 and falling to 10 at night.

CASARES PREPARES ITS FIRST EVER CONFERENCE ON LOCAL CUISINE


Casares is getting ready to have its first ever conference on local cusine. The conference follows a proposal submitted to the Bureau of Tourism and is supported by the Ayuntamiento and Ecotourcasares co-operative. The aim of the conference is to promote local food products and local companies involved in the food sector in Casares. A programme of cultural activities will also be promoted in conjunction with the conference to attract more visitors to the area. A meeting to organise the conference has been held, involving the owners of bars, restaurants, shops, artisan food products and interested locals. It was agreed that new proposals to help the conference will be welcome.




A NEW DOG PARK AND SPORTS FACILITY TO OPEN AT CASARES COSTA

A new dog parks is to open at Casares Costa at the Jardines del Rosario. The new recreation zone will also include a sports area with mini golf, baseball, petunia and a picnic area. The dog park will allow residents to train their pets and play with them. Casares Costa councillor Antonia Pineda said that there was demand for the facility following the success of the dogs area on the beach.Work on the new area is being carried out by the Ayuntamiento and workers are preparing to landscape the area with new paths and picnic tables and benches for everyone to enjoy.






SIERRA CRESTELLINA CHEESE GOES ON THE MENU AT TOP MARBELLA RESTAURANT

The renowned Sierra Crestellina cheese from Casares is to feature on the menu of a top restaurant in Marbella. The El Lago restaurant has been in existence for fifteen years this year and has had a Michelin Star for ten years.  Now it is to feature a new dish on its menu - suckling goat - which will feature Crestellina cheese. The cheese is produced by the artisan cheesemakers from its herd of goats grazing in the protected natural park of Sierra Crestellina. The new dish is suckling goat payoyo, with smoked cream cheese, Guadalhorce mandarin and vegetable salad with mint. Restaurant El Lago has purchased the cheese directly from the supplier and not from an intermediary.

CASARES IS ORGANISING A LOCAL INITIATIVE TO A CHARITY MARATHON

It is a local initiative to organise a charity marathon to hep raise funds for a man from Casares Costa who is now a quadriplegic following an accident. It is hoped to raise enough money to carry out modification work on the man’s home at Cortijo Real. Radio Casares is helping in

Jordan has carried out air attacks on areas held by ISIS in Syria after the terrorist group murdered a Jordanian pilot by burning him alive in a cage. The Jordanian government also executed two jihadists, including a woman bomber, after a video emerged this week of the burning alive of the air force pilot.



IN SPORTS NEWS

It’s the weekend that all rugby fans have been waiting for with the beginning of the 2015 Six Nations tournament. The event kicks off with England versus Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and continues tomorrow with Ireland against Italy in Rome and France taking on Scotland in Paris. A true rugby feast is in store.
