World soccer is still reeling from the corruption inquiries into FIFA by the American authorities. Sepp Blatter’s shock resignation statement on Tuesday just days after he was re-elected president of the sport’s governing body was followed by admissions by FIFA’s American boss Chuck Blazer that he had been involved in bribery and racketeering for twenty years. Many national football associations are now calling for root and branch reform of the sport’s world organisation.

It’s another bumper weekend for rugby fans with the second round matches in the Six Nations Championship. Ireland take on France in Dublin, Wales travel to Edinburgh to meet Scotland on Sunday and England, fresh from their victory over Wales, will play Italy at Twickenham tomorrow.

It’s the weekend that all rugby fans have been waiting for with the beginning of the 2015 Six Nations tournament. The event kicks off with England versus Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and continues tomorrow with Ireland against Italy in Rome and France taking on Scotland in Paris. A true rugby feast is in store.

TWENTY FOUR HOURS OF SPORTS EVENTS BEGINS IN CASARES THIS EVENING

Twenty four hours of sports begins at seven o' clock this evening in Casares. Over 500 athletes are entered in different disciplines with something for everyone interested in sport. There are indoor football competitions for seniors, cadets and children, seven a side football, paddle tennis and beach volleyball. The sports centre is ready for the marathon which begins tonight with the senior indoor soccer tournament in which 23 teams will compete in a continuous programme until 10 am tomorrow. The semi-finals and final will be played at five o' clock in the evening. The champions and runner sup will receive trophies and there are cash prizes in the senior soccer competition. The Sports Council says that these types of tournaments encourage a healthy lifestyle.

David Beckham is reported to have picked the city of Miami for a new US Major League Soccer expansion team which he will create for 25 million dollars. The former England and Manchester United star  decided on Miami because of the city’s large Hispanic population who follow soccer rather than American sports.

The controversy over the 2022 World Cup has deepened with the International Olympics Committee warning against holding them to clash with the Winter Games that year. FIFA awarded the World Cup to Qatar but European countries want the tournament moved to avoid the 50 degrees heat of the summer months.

Real Madrid continued its efforts to sign Spurs striker Gareth Bale for a record transfer fee of 100 million Euro this week. Real’s sporting director Zinedine Zidane said that the Welshman could become the best in the world. It remain’s to be seen if Spurs will let their striker move to the Spanish side.

A summer sports programme has been unveiled for the summer months

The programme includes swimming , paddle tennis tournaments, beach volleyball and indoor soccer and cycling. During the month of July there will be a project to get children involved in swimming and there will be a championship event on July 30th. A summer soccer sports league has been started and a beach volleyball competition will also be held every afternoon. Cycling fans will have a cycling night on July 26th and at the end of July there will also be a basketball tournament. In August there will be a beach volleyball tournament and a beach football tournament.

Australia will be seeking revenge for their defeat in the first test when they meet the British and Irish Lions for the second test at Melbourne tomorrow. Lions coach Warren Gatland has made five changes to the fifteen that defeated Australia by 23 to 21 in Brisbane last week.
