The controversy over the 2022 World Cup has deepened with the International
Olympics Committee warning against holding them to clash with the Winter Games
that year. FIFA awarded the World Cup to Qatar but European countries want the
tournament moved to avoid the 50 degrees heat of the summer months.
The next best thing (!). Through the non-profit Equestrian Sport Club Espiritu del Viento, Casares is being presented as a candidate to hold the 2014 Absolute and Young Riders Championship of Spain in Endurance. This is the most prestigious event on the Endurance Calendar and never before held in Andalucía.
ResponderEliminarWith the support of local business´s, big and small this event would bring a minimum of 500 people to the area for 5 to 6 days (participants, vets, judges, marshalls, security etc) and that, of course, is not counting spectators and tourists that would come to watch the event. 120km´s are completed in one day by the Young Riders and 160km by the adults. The rewards for the village would be on-going, benefitting from long term tourism, not just the days of the competitions.
