Syria's Deputy Prime Minister has admitted for the first time that the
Assad regime cannot win the country's two year old civil war. In an interview
in The Guardian newspaper Qadri Jamil said the civil war has reached a
stalemate and the government is ready to call a ceasefire to help reach a
political settlement. More than 100,000 people have died in the conflict which
broke out when opposition forces tried to overthrow the Assad regime.
