CASARES REPRESENTED AT INTERNATIONAL TOURISM FAIR ON COSTA DEL SOL

Casares is represented at Euroal, the international tourism fair of the Costa del Sol which is taking place this month.Councillor Sonia Saborido and Ecotourcasares are representing the town at the annual tourism showcase. The display for Casares shows highlights of the tourism season including the festival of New Andalucian Cinema which takes place next week. The Casares stand is staffed by members of the Ecotourcasares co-operative which helps to boost tourism in the town. The Euroal fair is mainly aimed at tour operators from Europe and Latin America.

Three European countries, Spain, Germany and France were in mourning this week after the co pilot of a Germanwings flight from Barcelona to Dusseldorf deliberately crashed his plane into the French Alps, killing all 150 people on board. it has emerged that the co pilot, 28 year old Andreas Lubitz had received psychiatric treatment for serious depression. Many airlines have brought in new safety measures following the disaster.

Violence has continued in Ukraine with reports that at least eight Ukrainian servicemen were killed despite a ceasefire agreement due to come into force on Sunday. The ceasefire deal was reached after talks at Minsk involving Russian President Putin, German chancellor Angela Merkel and  France’s President Francois  Hollande.

The Greek electorate voted in a new left wing government this week after giving the Syriza party an overwhelming endorsement for its anti austerity programme. The new Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras moved quickly to appoint a radical left wing cabinet and has promised to open negotiations with the rest of the EU over the massive Greek debt.

The European Central Bank announced this week that it is to pump 1.1 trillion Euro into the Eurozone economy in a bid to boost growth and investment. The ECB will buy up 60 billion of assets a month from March until September 2016. The quantitative easing programme is aimed at staving off deflation and boosting growth in the economy.

There were violent protests across the United States this week when a grand jury decided that a white police officer who shot dead a black teenager last August in the town of Ferguson, Missouri should not face criminal charges. Two thousand National Guard troops were sent to Ferguson where there was rioting and arson. There were also demonstrations in New York, Washington and Los Angeles.

US President Barack Obama has announced new measures to protect five million illegal immigrants from deportation. His executive actions are designed to bypass the Republican dominated Congress and will allow the undocumented to return to their native countries and to re-enter the United States without the fear of deportation.

A major clean up operation is underway across western Europe this week after a powerful storm, named St Jude, passed through the UK and France before hitting Holland, Denmark and Germany. At least 13 people were killed in the storm which also caused major damage and transport disruption.

Syria's Deputy Prime Minister has admitted for the first time that the Assad regime cannot win the country's two year old civil war. In an interview in The Guardian newspaper Qadri Jamil said the civil war has reached a stalemate and the government is ready to call a ceasefire to help reach a political settlement. More than 100,000 people have died in the conflict which broke out when opposition forces tried to overthrow the Assad regime.
