SIX LIFEGUARD JOBS ON OFFER FOR THE SUMMER

Six lifeguard jobs are on offer this year for the summer season at the swimming pools at Casares and Secadero. The local government last week agreed to offer six contracts, three for the poll in Casares and three for the pool in Secadero. Successful  candidates must be aged 18 or over and have qualifications as a lifeguard. Candidates will work five hours a day from Monday to Sunday and will be paid 1,000 Euro a month. Applications can be handed in at town hall from June 1st to 10th.

SUMMER SCHOOL

Over 200 children are attending this year’s summer schools in Casares and Secadero. The kids will have a wide range of activities, including sports, culture and recreation. The school runs for four weeks in Casares and for July and August in Secadero.

NEW POLICIES ARE PUT IN PLACE TO PREVENT FOREST FIRES THIS SUMMER

Casares is putting in place its policies to prevent forest fires this summer. As it does every year the ayuntamiento is issuing advice on the necessary measures to keep the risk of fires to a minimum. Given the wide areas of forest and scrubland in the ayuntamiento’s control and the proximity to the Straits of Gibraltar and its levante winds, there is a need for extra vigilance during the summer months. All isolated houses, estates and businesses must have their own self protection plan in place in the event of fire. So far only 260 of the estimated 840 are in place. Free advice is available from all municipal offices.

BEACHES ARE PREPARED FOR BUSY SUMMER SEASON AHEAD

The beaches of Casares Costa have been prepared for what is expected to be a busy summer season. The most recent work was the movement of new sand to Playa Ancha and Piedra Paloma to make them more amenable for bathers. In addition new beach equipment has been installed including 300 metres of wooden walkways, and new showers and toilets. This will allow easy access to the beaches from the paseo. The lifeguard service will come on stream from June 28th until August 31st and the ayuntamiento has awarded the contract to the local company SOS Mediterranea.

CASARES TAKES PART IN EXERCISE TO COMBAT FOREST FIRES THIS SUMMER

Casares has taken part in a simulated forest fire exercise to test the emergency services response to such an event. The exercise was held in Ojen and involved the deployment of specialist firefighting staff and other agencies such as police and ambulance services. Casares Deputy Mayor Pedro Gonzalez attended the exercise involving 112 personnel. The Ayuntamiento has stressed the importance of individuals taking their own precautions to prevent fires this summer. 

A summer sports programme has been unveiled for the summer months

The programme includes swimming , paddle tennis tournaments, beach volleyball and indoor soccer and cycling. During the month of July there will be a project to get children involved in swimming and there will be a championship event on July 30th. A summer soccer sports league has been started and a beach volleyball competition will also be held every afternoon. Cycling fans will have a cycling night on July 26th and at the end of July there will also be a basketball tournament. In August there will be a beach volleyball tournament and a beach football tournament.
