In the first legs of the Champions League semi finals Barcelona secured dramatic three nil defeat over Bayern Munich with star player Lionel Messi scoring two goals in the final quarter of the match. The Spanish side appear unstoppable in their race for the final. Real Madrid was beaten 2 - 1 by Juventus in the other semi final game.

John Terry this week signed a one year extension contract with Chelsea which could see the 34 year old veteran pick up another Premier League trophy at the end of this season. Terry praised Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho for helping to revive his career. Chelsea are six points ahead of nearest rivals Manchester City in the race for this year’s Premier League.

The Six Nations reaches  its finale tomorrow with the result of three games deciding who will win this year’s championship. Ireland will need to beat Scotland if they hope to retain the title but that will also depend on the outcomes of the Italy/Wales game and the England versus France match at Twickenham.

Tomorrow Ireland will aim to keep their Grand Slam hopes alive when they meet Wales at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff, while England take on Scotland at Twickenham. Spain crashed to a shock defeat in this week’s World Cup qualifiers when they were beaten 2 - 1 by Slovakia last night. It was first time in seven years that Spain failed to win an away qualifier. 

Meanwhile Gibraltar will take on Ireland in Dublin tomorrow  in the first of their qualifying games.

Barcelona's new manager Gerardo Martino was presented to the press today after arriving in the Catalan capital yesterday. The Argentinian coach replaces Tito Vilanova who had to step down due to serious illness. Martino has signed a three season deal with Barcelona.

The Tour de France reaches its climax in Paris on Sunday. Britain’s Chris Froome is on course to hold on to the yellow jersey and to victory on the Champs Elysee. Spain’s Alberto Contador failed to upset the Briton’s leading position despite strong performances this week.

Liverpool has already rejected the bid by the gunners who will have to increase their offer if they want to gain the services of the controversial striker

Rugby fans everywhere will have their eyes on the final test between Australia and the British and Irish Lions in Sydney tomorrow. Lions coach Warren Gatland caused consternation this week when he dropped legendary Irish player Brian O 'Driscoll from the squad for tomorrow's deciding game. The match kicks off at five past twelve Spanish time tomorrow.
