ABDICATION OF JUAN CARLOS OPENS DEBATE ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THE SPANISH MONARCHY
King Juan Carlos
shocked Spaniards by his announcement on Monday that he is to abdicate in
favour of his son Felipe. Juan Carlos who is 76 and who took over as King in
1975 after the death of Franco said he is stepping down to revive the monarchy.
While he is credited with helping the peaceful transition to democracy
following the years of Franco's dictatorship, in recent years his monarchy was
hit by scandals and corruption allegations. The decision by Juan Carlos to
abdicate has also reopened the debate about whether Spain should have a
monarchy at all. Thousands demonstrated in major cities across Spain on Monday
calling for a referendum on the monarchy. The United Left and Podemos parties
who won 20 per cent of the vote in the European elections have backed calls for
a plebiscite on the future of the monarchy. Meanwhile, it is expected that a
new law will have to be passed to allow King Felipe VI to take to the throne.
CASARES IS PRESENT AT THE COSTA DEL SOL'S PREMIER TOURISM FAIR
Casares was well
represented this week at this year's Euroal, the premier tourism fair for
the Costa del Sol. The fair was held from Monday until yesterday at the Palacio

industry. The fair has more than 40 destinations in Europe, Latin America, Asia
and Africa. The Casares team provided advice on the area's attractions for tour
operators and members of the public.

A full meeting of
the Ayuntamiento has apporved a budget of just over 11 million Euro for Casares
in 2014. The budget received the support of the united Left and was opposed by
the Socialist Party and the Partido Popular. Casares Mayor Antonia Morera said
that the budget will ensure that public services are guaranteed and that job
creation and support for the socially disadvantaged will continue. She stressed
that the expenditure will ensure the jobs of municipal staff and will provide a
boost for non permanent jobs. This year's budget will be spent on the
maintenance of facilities, roads, council housing, parks, gardens, street
lighting and leisure and recreation projects. The budget also gives continued
support to the Social Integration Programme which helps the needy.
UNEMPLOYMENT FALLS AGAIN IN CASARES AND THROUGHOUT MALAGA
Unemployment fell
by 1.5 per cent in Casares during May with seven less people signing on the
dole. It is the third month ina rwo that the jobless figure has dropped and the
total unemployed in the town now stands at 486. Unemployment has also
dropped in Gaucin, Estepona, Manilva and Jimena. Overall the number of jobless
in Malaga province dropped by 5,062 last month, that's a 2.3 per cent
reduction. The service sector has proved to be the biggest factor in the fall
