And the weather for the weekend:


The searing heat of today which saw temperatures hitting 26 degrees will cool down over the weekend when a polar air mass will reach the Costa del Sol. Tomorrow will be sunny with a high of 22 and low of 10, and Sunday will sees temperatures dropping back to 17 degrees with a low of 9

In sports news:



The two top teams in Spanish soccer suffered humiliating defeats by German teams in the  first legs of the Champions League  semi finals this week. Barcelona was beaten 4 - 0 by Bayern Munich on Tuesday and Real Madrid suffered a 4 - 1 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night. The results could mean that an all German Champions League final is now on the cards.



International news:



The death toll from a building collapse in Bangladesh on Wednesday continues to rise, with at least 187 dead and more than 1,000 injured. Most of the casualties were in factories which supply western clothes retailers. Eye witnesses reported hearing  a deafening crack just before the building collapsed. The government declared a national day of mourning following the horrific accident.


IMPROVEMENT WORKS BEGIN AT LOS ARENALES



Improvement works began this week in the area of Los Arenales following the vote by Casares residents last month on which projects should go ahead. The Town Hall is in charge of the work and has hired two stonemasons and a labourer from the the unemployment register to carry out the refurbishment work. This includes the construction of a wall, rearranging parking spaces, improvements in streetlights and the moving of overhead telephone lines underground. Residents have been advised to take care during the works.

CASARES TO HONOUR BLAS INFANTE ON PROVINCE DAY NEXT WEEK



Casares will honour its most famous son, Blas Infante, when it celebrates Province Day this Friday. Casares has been chosen by the Provincial Government as the centre for this year’s celebrations to mark Province Day in Malaga. The President of the Provincial Government, Elias Bendodo, said that Casares is the ideal place for the event since it is the birthplace of Blas Infante. The main event will be the presentation of Gold Province Medals to Carmen Thyssen, the Cudeca Foundation and the Employers Federation of Malaga for their contributions to life in the province. Casares Mayor Antonia Morera said she is very grateful that the town was chosen for the event and she stressed that small towns need the support of institutions.

LOCAL POLICE INVOLVED IN SHOOTING INCIDENT AT CASARES COSTA



 

Local police were shot at during an incident on Casares Costa last Sunday. Police officers who were carrying out a vehicle checkpoint at Bahia de Casares around six o ‘ clock in the evening noticed a man acting suspiciously and trying to hide from them. When they approached him and asked him to identify himself, the man pulled a gun and fired a shot. Police returned fire and the man fled. The police officers alerted another police patrol and the Guardia Civil but the man was not apprehended.
