RADIO CASARES LAUNCHES NEW INITIATIVE TO HELP THE UNEMPLOYED


 
A new initiative launched by Radio Casares this week to help the unemployed advertise their skills has already received coverage on Canal Sur, the Andalucian television station. The TV show carried a report from the Radio Casares studio yesterday showcasing the new platform for the unemployed. A reporter and camera crew interviewed some of the Casarenos who have been using the radio station to advertise their work experience and skills. The TV reporter also interviewed Radio Casares Director Ana Gonzalez de Leito. Following the coverage, Radio Casares received calls from Antequera, San Pedro and Casares about the jobs on offer. Communications Councillor Juan Luis Villalon welcomed the new platform for the unemployed on the radio station and said it was part of the overall campaign by the Council to combat unemployment. The platform will be broadcast several times each day and will include an advertising campaign advising the unemployed how to utilise the radio slots.


BRITS TOP THE LEAGUE IN TOURIST NUMBERS TO CASARES THIS SUMMER


The Brits have topped the tourist league in Casares this summer. Figures released this week show that the museums in Casares received over 1,800 visits this summer, with the British coming in at number one with 41 per cent, and the Spanish in second place with 37 per cent. They were followed by the French and the Germans. The best month was July with 773 visits to the Blas Infante birthplace and cultural centre and 614 visits to the Puerto de Ronda Tourist Centre, which is managed by Ecotour Casares. A total of 1,528 people visited the centre in the months of June, July and August. The Blas Infante birthplace received over 1,000 visitors in the summer months. However the Tourism Council has pointed out that the figures do not reflect the real level of tourism as many visitors do not record their trips to the tourist centres.



CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED TO COLLECT TOYS FOR NEEDY CHILDREN THIS CHRISTMAS



It's only the end of September with memories of the summer still alive for many people but already a campaign has been launched to collect toys for needy children this Christmas. The aim is to have a recycling bank where used toys can be collected for distribution to children from needy families. Paula Gonzalez is the co-ordinator of the Desvan Solidario of Casares who are behind the toy collection and who also manage the food bank in the town. Collection points for the used toys will be set up at the social welfare centre in Casares, the Blas Infante school and the Los Almendros school in Secadero, as well as the Mayor's office in Casares costa. The toy collection will run until the end of November and the toys will be distributed in December.

 


LORCA PLAY WILL BE STAGED BY THE THEATRE WORKSHOP THIS WEEKEND


The Theatre Workshop is presenting a play by famous poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca at the Blas Infante Cultural Centre tonight and tomorrow and due to public demand on Friday, October 4th. The play - Bodas de Sangre - is a difficult and passionate work by Lorca, the famous poet from Granada who was murdered by Nationalist forces at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936. Twelve young people and four women have been working on the play since March. Entrance costs 3 Euro and the play starts at 10 pm. Theatre director Santiago Ruiz has invited all theatre lovers to come and enjoy their production of this important work.

The first rain of the autumn season is due to hit Malaga province this weekend. There is a good chance of rain tomorrow and temperatures are due to fall significantly compared to the warm weather we have have been experiencing recently.

International news


Kenya is holding three days of national mourning following the terrorist attack on a shopping mall in Nairobi last weekend. An Al Qaeda linked group from Somalia carried out the attack which left 67 civilians dead and 63 people still missing. Kenyan forces eventually stormed the mall on Monday, killing five of the terrorists and capturing ten more.

In Sports


The USA won the America's Cup yachting trophy this week in one of the biggest comebacks in sporting history after trailing by 8 - 1 to the New Zealand team. The cup is the oldest in international sport dating back to 1851. The USA team was helped to its stunning victory by British captain Ben Ainslie ,a four time Olympics gold medallist.

Tomorrow will be cloudy with the chance of a thunderstorm and temperatures reaching 26 with a low of 18, while Sunday will again be cloudy with a high of 25 and a low of 19 degrees.

CASARES IS NOMINATED TO HOST THE RAID CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2014



Casares was nominated yesterday to host the Spanish RAID championship for 2014. The prestigious horse riding event is one of the major tournaments in the Spanish sporting calendar and if Casares wins the nomination it would be a major boost for tourism and the local economy in the region. The nomination was handed in at a ceremony at the Casa de Cultura yesterday afternoon. The nomination is a joint venture between the Espiritu del Viento sports club and the Ecotourcasares co-operative. Winning the holding of the national championship could be worth up to 200,000 Euro for the municipality. The competition will be held between May 1st and 4th next year. Other competitors for the event include Madrid, Barcelona and Badajoz. If Casares wins,it will be the first time the tournament will be held in Andalucia. Councillor for Sports Pedro Gonzalez called on everyone in Casares to support the nomination.

THE TOWN HALL ANNOUNCES NEW COURSES FOR THE COMING YEAR


The Town Hall has announced a wide range of new courses for the coming year in Casares, Secadero and Casares Costa. The courses cover a wide range of cultural, sporting and recreational activities throughout the community. Anyone interested  should register by September 27th in Casares and by September 24th in Secadero, at the Town Hall in Casares, at the Mayor' s  office in Casares Costa and the Mayor's office in Secadero. In Casares the courses on offer include tennis lessons, gym, spinning, aerobics and football. The Womens Council is also offering courses in ballroom dancing and arts and crafts, while other workshops will also cover areas such as painting, computers, Latin Dance, a book club and a theatre workshop. In Casares Costa courses on offer include aerobics and pilates and because of the high amount of different nationalities living in the area there will be language classes in English, Spanish and German. All in all there is something to cater for everyone's taste on offer this year.
