EARTHQUAKES HIT CASARES AND CADIZ PROVINCE BUT NO MAJOR DAMAGE REPORTED

Two significant earthquakes were recorded this week - one to the northwest of Casares and the other close to Jimena de la Frontera in Cadiz province. The first earth tremor - which registered at 3.8 on the Richter scale - was recorded at 7.54 pm on Sunday between Sierra Crestellina and the Genal river. There were no reports of any damage as the area is largely depopulated. Emergency services reported no calls as the tremor was deep underground. On Tuesday, a second tremor registering 4.8 was reported with its epicentre in the Jimena de la Frontera area. This tremor was felt by residents in Cadiz, Malaga and Sevilla provinces. The emergency services received more than a dozen calls from shaken residents but there were no reports of any major damage.
