The surprise election of Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio from Buenos Aires in Argentina as Pope Francis  has been welcomed in the Roman Catholic Church. The new Pope is the first from outside Europe in more than a thousand years and he is the first Jesuit to hoild the post.
