CASARES GETS READY FOR SEMANA SANTA WITH A MIX OF TRADITIONAL AND RELIGIOUS EVENTS

Next week is Semana Santa and a wide range of events will take place in Casares reflecting traditional customs and the religious importance of the period. Proceedings get underway this evening with mass at 6.30 at the church of Our Lady of the Incarnation. There will be a blessing of the palms at the chapel of San Substation at 11 am on Palm Sunday followed by a procession to the church of Our Lady of the Incarnation. Next Wednesday the Way of the Cross will be held and on Holy Thursday there will be another procession. The Procession of the Virgin of Sorrows will be held on Good Friday while Saturday will see the Easter Vigil starting at 9 pm. Easter Sunday will see the climax to Holy Week with one of the kist colourful processions, the reuniting of the risen Christ with the Virgin of the Sorrows.

CASARES GETS READY FOR HOLY WEEK ACTIVITIES NEXT WEEK

Preparations are well underway for next week’s Holy Week activities in Casares. In total there will be four processions during the week, beginning with the traditional Palm Sunday procession from the Iglesia del Llano.

On Tuesday there will be the procession of the Christ of Medinaceli through the streets of Casares. The marking of Holy Week continues on Thursday and on Good Friday there will be the procession of the Lady of Sorrows and the Holy Sepulchre accompanied by a band.

On Easter Sunday the events of Holy Week will culminate with the procession of the Risen Christ and the Virgin of Sorrows. The Holy Week activities are a great attraction for locals and foreign visitors alike.
