Preparations are well underway for this year's San Juan celebration on Sunday evening and night

   There will be the traditional activities at Playa Ancha on Casares Costa, starting with children's entertainment at seven o' clock. Kids will be able to enjoy a bouncy castle, make up and balloons and a children's show will be held at 8.30.  Musical festivities get underway at ten o' clock with the Fusiones del Sur. And the party reaches a climax with the midnight bonfire on the beach which this year will feature Japanese theme with a dragon. Look forward to seeing you all there!

Cultural Week in Casares Costa

FRENCH TOURIST RESCUED FROM POOL AT CASARES COSTA

An alert lifeguard  has rescued a French tourist who got into difficulty while swimming at a pool on Casares Costa. A 63 year old French man who suffers from Parkinson’s disease was swimming in the pool when he got into trouble. Lifeguard Isaac Tocon from the Mediterranean SOS company, who was on duty, pulled the man from the water and administered CPR resuscitation. Emergency services were on the scene along with the local police and a family doctor within ten minutes. The family of the man who was rescued and the administrator of the urbanisation have thanked the lifeguard for his help.

And now some news in brief:

A programme of language lessons will be held this summer at Casares Costa. The classes will include English for Spanish people  and Spanish for foreigners and will be taught by a native speaker. Anyone interested should contact the Mayor’s office at Casares Costa before June 21st.

DISAPPOINTMENT AT UNCERTAINTY ABOUT SCHOOL AT CASARES COSTA

There have been disappointed by the decision this week by the Board of Education of the Government of Andalusia, this government has said it will consider, but not committed.

Councillors Pedro Gonzalez and Antonia Pineda met with the Board on Tuesday to press for the building of a new school on the coast. There are 325 children of school age currently registered in Casares Costa, and many of them already attend schools in Casares village, in Sabinillas and in Estepona. However the Education Board said that at the moment there are no funds in the budget to build a new school. Casares Council has been calling since 2008 for a new nursery and primary school at Casares Costa. Councillor Gonzalez said he will continue his campaign for a new school and he will prepare a report on the number of schoolchildren every year which will demonstrate the need for new facilities.

And now some news in brief:

Work is being carried out on the Avenida del Mar at Marina de Casares where a final stretch of asphalt is being resurfaced. The work on a 135 metre stretch will cost 16,800 Euro and is expected to be completed within two weeks.

TWO FEARED DEAD IN STRAITS OF GIBRALTAR AFTER SAILING FROM ESTEPONA

Two people are feared to have drowned in the Straits of Gibraltar after leaving Estepona on a sailing trip. The two men  were on board a pleasure boat, the Gingel Naget which suffered a leak after leaving Estepona on Friday. The body of Alfonso Hossain was found on Monday about twelve miles from Sotogrande after a major air and sea rescue operation was launched. The search for Miguel Angel Melon, a native of Galicia, was called off on Tuesday. The missing man's wife, who  normally lives in Mijas, has travelled to Ceuta as have other relatives from Galicia.
