Unemployment rose in Casares last month bucking the trend of a decline
for the last few months. There were 23 more people signing on in October giving
a total of 471 but that was still 64 less than for October last year. In
Manilva there was a similar pattern with 103 more people undemployed, a total
of 1,390 although this is still 41 less than last year. The number of jobless
grew by 544 in Estepona, giving a total of 7,565 out of work, but that figure
is five per cent less than last year's figure. The rise in unemployment was
refelcted throughout Malaga province with an extra 7,031 people joining the
dole queue and brining the total over the 200,000 mark for the first time since
the summer months saw a decrease in unemployment. The figures reflect the seasonal
nature of employment in the province with the services sector suffering the
largest increase in unemployment while constuction has seen a drop of 697 less
people out of work.
