VANDALS ATTACK NEOLITHIC CAVES IN THE SIERRA DE LA UTRERA

Ancient caves in the Sierra de la Utrera which are of significant archaeological interest have been subjected to vandalism. The vandalism which occurred in February has resulted in the closure of four of the five caves which have been the site of archaeological research since December 2013. Archaeologists from different Andalucian universities have been studying neolithic remains including burial sites in the caves. There is evidence that vandals have attacked these special sites and now Casares has asked for a damage assessment report and for assistance from the Junta de Andalucia to protect these valuable sites.
